In general, the best time to visit Sapa is in the summer months of August to December, where the skies are much more to be crystal clear and you might have chance to experience the snow rain here. It will be extremely wonderful.
How to get there:
By train: There are a lot of options to get to Sapa from Hanoi, there are daily overnight trains heading in each direction with the journey taking around nine hours. Currently, there is also the new Victoria’s Orient Express that runs between Hanoi and Sapa, offering more luxurious rail travel facilities and services. All trains to Lao Cai/Sapa depart from the Hanoi Railway Station.
By coach: It usually takes about 10 hours drive by car or bus with the journey taking up the entire day, there are many possible routs matches their special interests.
In general, travel by trains is much more advisable because of the long and bumpy road. By the way, people say that from Lao Cai train station to Sapa is another hour bus ride, which gives your eyes a massage with the endless blue sky and colourful terraced paddy field. The road is curved around the mountain and you will just go from one surprise to another. The further you go, the closer you are to the sky and to nature.
Things to do and see in Sapa
Sapa is such a colorful town thanks to its minority ethnics such as H’Mong and Dao people from the local hill tribes who head into the town’s market every day Saturday when the place is packed but there is lower key one every other day during the week. These people have undergone no formal education but the arrival of foreigners has made them wel aware of value of money and basic level of spoken English. People here sell clothing and handicraft which is handmade by local people such as ethnic clothes, accessories, etc.
Many visitors sign up for trekking expeditions out to local villages and beyond. All hotel and travel agencies in town offer half day visit to Cat Cat just 3km outside of sapa and full day hikes to Ta Phin village which lies 10km outside town.

The Catcat Village is a trading village in Sapa, about 12km from the center. When get there you can choose for yourselves and for your family, friends a lot of beautiful and meaningful souvenirs.
Terraced fields
Sapa Love Market is a culture characterized of local people which apppeared long time ago. Every Saturday, the love market is opened in the evening. It is traditional villages of Dao people, Mong people in Northwest. Usually on Saturday evening, men and women meet emotional exchanges (play folk games, blown praise, tug of war, love singing, ..) can display their own character. After each session, men and women find lover for themself to live together.
