Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden was established in 1865 and now it is still an attractive destination for every people.
The Garden was completely built in March 1865 by Louis Adolphe Germain – the French doctor. Then JB. Louis Pierre was invited to be the garden’s directors by the Governor General of Indochina. He was taken responsibility of collecting plants and animals in the Southeast of Vietnam and Indochina to move them to Paris Natural History Museum.

At the end of 1865, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden was broadened to have 20 ha of area. The director saved a lot of natural plants and fruit trees from which many fruit garden was built in the Southeast. Louis Pierre worked as the director in 12 years and he left a precious heritage for people with the collection of more than 100000 templates which is now kept at Ho Chi Minh Institute for Tropical Biology and a thousand of ancient trees in Tao Dan Park.
After the South revolution, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden welcomes millions of visitors every year.
The garden was maintained and rebuilt many times from 1984.
